Distinguished Members of the Delegation from the Kingdom of Jordan.
I would like to thank you, Your Majesty, for the great honor you give us by visiting us at this point in time, where we know you have a difficult situation in the region of the Middle East.
Welcome to Jakarta. I’m very pleased to meet you again after my visit to Amman last April.
Our two nations have enjoyed close relations since the establishment of our diplomatic ties 74 years ago, in October 1951. On another level, as you know, I have an emotional bond with Jordan. His Majesty King Hussein kindly received me—I think I forgot how many years ago. Nearly what? 25 years, is it? 26 or 27? ’98, ’99 yeah. That is how close we are. I always remember fondly my years in Jordan. Therefore, it really gives me a great pleasure to host you here in Indonesia.
And actually we had hoped you would have stayed longer, but we realized that you have a very busy schedule, but actually I prepared, I prepared my own residence to receive you, but it’s one hour outside of Jakarta. So, maybe next time I can convince you to come back again with your family and all that.
Please consider Indonesia your second home, and Indonesia has high respect, high regard for Jordan for many years, and we want to work closely with you and we want to thank you also for receiving a lot of our young people being trained in Jordan even as we speak.
